We are now more than a month in and days are starting to really fly by. 3rd-5th grade students have settled into our routines and are making great gains academically, as well as socially and emotionally. One of the most important things to keep in mind as we move through the second half of the first 9 weeks, is that having your student present each day (provided they are not sick or quaranteening) is the best way way to ensure they are getting the instruction and support they need to make great academic growth. The other message continually shared in class, is that in order to become a better reader, students must read. So, please encourage your student to read nightly!

After a couple of great days to start the year, it’s now time to start the real work. This week students will take the i-Ready diagnostic test to help guide individual work and to fill in reading gaps. Additionally, we will jump into our Reading Street ELA curriculum and begin normal classroom instruction. The year will go quickly, so it’s important that we maximize each day. Please help ensure your student gets plenty of sleep as they’ll need all the brain power they can muster!
