Spring is a wonderful time for students to enjoy warmer weather, outdoor activities, and sports. As we head into the season, here are a few important health reminders to help keep our students safe and healthy.
Seasonal Allergy Tips
Many students experience seasonal allergies during the spring. Symptoms may include sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, or congestion.
Helpful tips:
- Talk with your child’s healthcare provider if allergy symptoms become severe.
- Have your child wash hands and face after outdoor play to remove pollen.
- Change clothes after playing outside if pollen is high.
- Allergy medications needed at school must be brought by a parent/guardian with the proper forms.
Tick Safety
Ticks are more active during the spring and can be found in grassy or wooded areas.
To help prevent tick bites:
- Wear long sleeves, pants, and closed-toe shoes when playing in tall grass.
- Use insect repellent when spending extended time outdoors.
- Check your child for ticks after outdoor activities, especially:
- Hairline
- Behind the ears
- Under the arms
- Behind the knees
- Showering after outdoor play can help wash away ticks before they attach.
Outdoor Safety
Students will be spending more time outside for recess and activities.
Please help your child remember to:
- Wear appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes for outdoor play
- Bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated
- Apply sunscreen before school when spending extended time outside
School Policy on Sunscreen
- Staff is NOT permitted to apply sunscreen to students
- Student may bring their own sunscreen and apply to themselves
- Students may NOT share sunscreen
