  • Now is a good time to schedule sports physicals for 7th-8th graders that will participate in basketball and track. Turn in the sports physicals as soon as possible so they are ready to practice on the first day of practice.

Counselor's Corner

Welcome back!

I hope your summer was filled with fun, laughter and plenty of time to relax and recharge. As we kick off a brand new school year, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself again and share a bit about the school counseling program at Colwich Elementary

My name is Marilee Mayo and I’m so excited to be at Colwich Elementary for my second year! I feel truly lucky to be part of a school community that values connections, kindness and helping every child shine.

As the school counselor, I get to work with students in a variety of ways - through classroom lessons, small groups and individual support. My goal is to connect with all the students and continue to build a relationship with each and every one of them. If there is anything I can help with, please know you can always reach out if you have questions, concerns or just want to connect. I love to hear their celebrations and good things as well!

For the month of September, our classroom lessons will focus on kindness. We define kindness as acting with understanding, generosity and care. We will be learning what kindness looks like and sounds like at school and you can keep the conversation going at home too!

I will also be spending some time with our new students to help them settle into their new classrooms and check in with them. It’s a great chance to start building relationships with me and their classmates.

Book Bingo

BOOK BINGO starts September 8th for 2nd through 5th graders!

Here’s how it works:
  • You can earn one stamp for every book you read.
  • Be sure to read your book carefully, because I’ll be asking you questions about it!
  • If you get a regular BINGO (one line), you’ll win a small prize like candy.
  • If you cover the entire board (Black Out), you’ll earn a spot at the end-of-year BINGO Party! There will be a movie, Gambino’s pizza, pop, and possibly some extra recess!
BOOK BINGO ends in May, so you have lots of time!
Keep reading, and good luck!
